If you understand how your appliance is supposed to work, you can more easily detect and fix problems. Each appliance type covered has its theory of operation described. Each major function of an appliance is linked under the "Proper Operation" heading of the product page.
Choose the appliance you want to troubleshoot from the column on the left. Once at the appropriate page, read the theory of operation of the function in question.
Each appliance type has common problems that occur with a high frequency. The repair section of the individual product pages links these common symptoms to a possible cause. The symptoms of the failures will be listed by decreasing likelihood under the "Problem Diagnostics" heading of the page.
Once you decide that you do have a problem, find your appliance's symptom and click on the link for details about that cause. The details page may describe the cause further to help you verify the malfunction, name the possible failed component, describe procedures to confirm a part's failure or describe parts required to correct the condition. Repair procedures with embedded diagrams may help you to perform the service yourself and avoid calling in a professional to perform the repairs for you.
