The wash function is always preceded by the fill function. Your clothes could be permanently damaged by the agitator if it could move without water in the tub. The wash function begins with the water level control providing a voltage to the timer signaling that the tub has been filled with the selected amount of water. The timer energizes the drive motor to start turning in the counter-clockwise direction which causes the transmission to rock the agitator shaft and agitator back and forth.
When the pump is turned in the counter-clockwise direction, water is circulated through the tub and the lint filter. Lint is caught on the lint filter "fingers" during the wash cycle and is flushed off into the drain during the drain function. The timer will start the drain function next.
